A weekend camping trip to Brunswick Heads (next to Byron Bay). We will have access to beaches and to flatwater. This is a social end of year trip for everyone.
Paddle type: Flatwater/Sea kayak/whitewater
Location: Brunswick Heads. Day trip to Byron bay beaches and/or Broken Head (just south of Byron), depending on conditions.
Date: 24th and 25th November 2012
Accommodation: camping at Brunswick Heads
Overview: We intend to do a paddle on the Brunswick River on Saturday afternoon and we may also run a trip at the same time in the surf there if the conditions are safe. The surf activity is for the more experienced paddlers/ WW paddlers. The tide is flooding (i.e. coming in) from about 12.30PM on Saturday, so we may paddle upstream with the current to Mullumbimby (10k upstream from Brunswick Heads) and get picked up there rather than paddle back against the tidal current.
We may have a beach party on Saturday night and there may be a ‘party theme’ but we will advise on that closer to the date.
On Sunday we will pack up and drive to Byron Bay for a surf (in kayaks) or a swim. Byron Bay is 17k or 15mins south of Brunswick Heads. For those less experienced we will be running a training session in the small waves that are often there close to the beach. This will be weather dependent. For those that do not want to go in the water, there it is a good chance to just relax on the beach. There will be time to visit the township and we may have a late lunch there.
The trip officially will start on Saturday morning and we will plan to meet no later than 10AM at the Holiday Park at Brunswick Heads. It is likely that we will need to meet at 7AM at the Canoe Club shed to pack the kayaks on the trailer.
I will be arriving there on Friday afternoon so anyone is welcome to join me earlier if you wish.
Other information of interest:-
The moon will be at 80% intensity and the sunset will be at 7.25PM. This Trip is intended to be a social as well as a recreational activity. There will be time for just relaxing as well as skills training if desired.
