A relatively short paddle on Saturday to a beautiful campsite at Tipplers Passage on South Stradbroke Island (northern end of the Gold Coast). We will return via the same way or the long way depending on the weather and paddlers abilities/ fitness. Environment is paddling within estuary waters.
Description | We will leave Jacobs Well (9.30AM) and paddle east towards South Stradbroke Island (Tipplers Passage) for about 10ks. This should take about 3 hours. We intend to practise towing and we will work on our stoke correction hence the longer estimated paddle time. We will stop at the old Bedrooms campsite before heading south to Tipplers. We should arrive at out campsite at about 12.30pm and set up camp. The campsite is within a private camping area (grassed open ground) and a camping fee is payable to the operators. This is about $10 depending on the final number of participants. Please bring money for this fee. There is also a shop and food outlet/ cafe (coffee ☺) at the camp ground, so bring extra money for whatever you wish to buy here. At the camp ground there are hot showers, flushing toilets and a formal BBQ facility/ camp kitchen! In the late afternoon there are many kangaroos around the camp ground (well – there were when l was last there many years ago). Water is available at this camp ground.
After we set up camp we may practice further skills in the protected waterway and or walk (about 15minutes) to the beach side of the Island for a swim in the surf. This is a overnight camp so will help prepare those who wish to come on the multiday Fraser Trip for packing the kayak and camping generally. |
