Potts Point trip

A day sea kayak trip on Moreton bay from Victoria point, around Coochiemudlo island, then across to Potts point on Macleay island and back.

We will paddle around the north side of Coochiemudlo island, cross to Potts point on Macleay island, and then return via the south side of Coochiemudlo Island.

This is a beginner sea kayaking trip. The day will start with a brief and run down of what to expect on the trip. There will be an introductory brief on trip safety, an explanation of the sea kayak and kayak gear as well as some very basic kayaking skills. After the brief and gear check we will head off.

Date: Saturday 9th February 2013
Meet: Club shed at 6:30 AM (sharp!!)

Put in point: VMR pontoon and ramp, Victoria Point at 9:00 AM
Take out point: VMR pontoon and ramp, Victoria Point at 12:30 – 1:00 PM
Distance: Approx 11-12 km total.
Tides: High 9:15am; low tide ~4:00pm
Duration: All day trip. Approximately 2.5 – 3 hours on the water. With a few breaks during the trip.

Requirements
Basic fitness: This trip will is for those with basic skills and fitness. There is a section of some quite open water and a possibility of choppy conditions and waves – especially if the wind gets up.

Numbers: Numbers will be limited by transport, with a maximum of about 8 people.
Safety: Sea kayaking on Moreton Bay can be hazardous. If wind and/or predicted conditions become unfavorable we will decide on a new paddling activity for the day.

Required equipment: Sea kayak, spray deck, paddle leash, bailer/sponge, and PFDs. Bring a picnic lunch, snacks, at least 3L WATER, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, insect repellant, money, hat, towel, wind and rain proof top. A change of clothes.

Basic Costs: wear and tear contribution, petrol money for your driver.
Registration: Please register your interest with Mickey by email (first come first served). Please indicate whether you have transport and if you have roof racks for kayaks. If you have not kayaked with the the organisers before, please give some indication of your skills level to assist planning. It will not be fun if you are not up to it.
