This is an extended grade 1 to 1.5 (advanced beginner to intermediate) 8 day trip to world famous heritage listed Fraser Island. This is the world’s largest sand Island and the area that we will be paddling is reasonable remote so we will need to be self sufficient for the entire 8 days. We will be paddling adjacent to the western coastline and will be paddling 20 to 25 ks per day with perhaps a lay day or two
The paddling environment is relatively protected waters and we will be paddling with a few hundred meters of the shoreline.
We will be leaving the Club shed very early on Saturday morning (about 5am) to arrive at Hervey Bay about 8.30am.

  • We will then load our kayaks and gear on to a private barge which will drop us off at Moon Point on Fraser Island.
  • We will then paddle north to Woralie Creek (about 14ks) for our first night (Saturday night). Our tentative trip plan is as follows:-
  • Woralie Creek – Awinya Creek (8ks) Sunday night
  • Awinya – Wathumba (20ks) Monday night

  • Wathumba – Bowarrady Creek (18Ks) Thursday night
  • Bowarrady Creek – Cougal Creek (14Ks) Friday night

Tides: Obviously vary over this period. Tide times will be distributed to all participants closer to the trip time. Mostly it is timed it so that we will have tidal assistance, but there are times when we will be paddling against the tide.
