The following information is essential reading for any member thinking of signing up for semester 2 sea kayaking trips to be announced on Monday August 2.
Here is an overview of how everything will work…
On Monday, the list and details of trips for semester 2 will be posted to the ‘upcoming trips’ section in the sea kayaking part of the web site.
Most trips will have places for 7 participants.
Trips operate on a strictly first in basis. This means that the first 7 members to respond to Nicole (our trip co-ordinator) in relation to each trip will be allocated a place, subject to the payment of the trip fee.
Nicole will notify all trip participants as soon as possible as well as those that were not successful in their application
A list of 3 reserves will be kept for each trip and where a participant fails to pay the trip fee before the deadline the first reserve will be offered the place and so on.
Payment for all trips is due 2 weeks before the trip departure date.
Payment for trips can be made at UQ SPORT at any time up to the final date for payment (2 weeks prior to the trip)
All trip participants will be required to complete a medical form, sign the club waiver, complete an emergency contact form, read the club’s grading scale on the web site (under sea kayaking) and attend a pre-trip briefing.
The club will provide transport from the Uni to the trip departure point and return participants to the Uni at the end of the trip.
Limited camping equipment is available – if you need it, speak to Nicole as soon as you are confirmed on the trip.
Trip participants are required to provide their own food, water and appropriate clothing. A detailed list will be made available to all participants of recommended items.
It is up to each participant to read and understand the club grading scale for sea kayaking trips before signing up for any trip. It is essential that each member takes responsibility for their own competence and does not place the safety of other paddlers at risk by signing up for a trip that they are not ready for.
The club has planned trips so that the early trips are beginner graded trips meaning that members with little experience can still particpate in the later more advanced trips (such as whale watching) provided they attend earlier trips to develop skills and confidence.
Any questions about trip co-ordination can be directed to Nicole Nichols via her e-mail address on this site.
Any questions about paddling, skills, experience, training, safety in relation to trips can be directed to Nathan Wedding our club instructor via his e-mail address on this site.
