Tweed Heads Camping Weekend

Club camping multi-discipline trip to Tweed Heads, NSW.


Join the club members in a relaxing weekend down on the stunning waters of the Tweed river for a weekend that will have something for all! Come for one or two days.

Members of the club will travel to Tweed heads and stay at Colonial holiday and home park on the Tweed River. We will take a range of boats to accommodate as many disciplines as possible. Surf sessions in sea kayaks, surf skis and white water boats for advanced members. Paddle the calmer flat waters in a K1 or TKs, and discover areas of a different river. A game of canoe polo may also be on the cards.

Environment: Creek, river, estuary, Ocean, Surf – depending on skill levels and boats

Meet: at the club shed at 7am on Saturday the 12th of April.
Depart: 8 AM
Return: Group will be returning around 2pm on Sunday afternoon to the UQCC shed

Multi disciplinary trip involving flatwater, seakayaking, canoeing and whitewater

Required Equipment

  • Food for weekend (lunch, dinner, breakfast, and lunch) or money to buy food
  • Clothing for the weekend – including wet and dry shoes
  • Swimming gear and towel (you will get wet).
  • Waterbottle
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, long sleeved shirt, sunscreen)
  • Camping equipment for the weekend (Tent, mattress, pillow, sleeping bag)

Recommended:

  • Fishing rod (fishing permits need to be purchased in NSW)
  • Other activities to entertain in down time (cards, book)

Requirements

  • Participants must register interest 1 week prior to the event
  • Paddlers can be of any level, however members will be required to demonstrate their abilities before they are allow to participate higher grade activities.

Put in points: Put in point on the banks of the camping sites; Various other boat ramps available on the tweed river.

Risks/Hazards: surf, rocks, boat traffic, fatigue, algae, marine life, sunburn, capsize, dehydration, paddle related injuries

Risk minimisation: Bring suitable clothing for the beach and paddling, Dress for the outdoors, Bring wind/ rain proof cag/ jacket. Advise trip leader of any medical conditions beforehand. Observe members skills before permitting them to engage in more dangerous activities. Only enter the surf if conditions are favourable, Surf activities will be banned if too rough. All activities will take place within 50m of land.

Communication: mobile phone, whistle, flares, V-sheet – is some events VHF radio and PLB
Safety equipment: spare paddle, tow line, repair kit, first aid kit
Check of other paddler equipment: suitable craft, spray deck (if used), PFD, paddle leash (if used), bailing device, medication, water, footwear

Costs: $32 per night per site with an extra $8 per person. The camp sites are apparently large (so would be shared), and there would be no problem finding a spot for a camping trailer.

Bad weather alternative : Day trip to Currumbin or Wivenhoe.
