Equipment Borrowing Book

An equipment borrowing book is located in the club shed (on the desk).
Use this book to -

  • check for for existing reservations before you use any kayaks
  • book kayaks in advance
Please read the general information about borrowing club equipment . Additional instructions are attached to the front of the borrowing book (reproduced below). Non-members (e.g. partners, friends, or other non-financial members) are not allowed to use club equipment.

If you can, please make a donation towards the upkeep of the equipment if you borrow it

UQCC Equipment borrowing and booking register
This must be filled out if you are taking kayaks away from the canoe shed (ie: not launching from the pontoon.)

Note that you are wholly responsible for the equipment you borrow. For help or damage reports, please email the equipment officer and/or the representative for the type of kayak you borrowed (seakayaking / whitewater / polo / flatwatert).

Booking
Book the boat you want by writing in your name, contact details (Phone No. and Email address) and the boat you would like to borrow into the first day of your trip, then mark the rest of the days to your expected return date. This must be at least 7 days before your trip.

Unbooked / Collection
If you have not booked your boat, check if it has been booked for any of the days of your trip. If not, write down your name and contact details and expected return date on the correct page in the diary. Under your name write down all the gear you are borrowing following the form shown in the example. Check the gear for damage and make a note of it if the gear is damaged.

Transport (USE FOAM AND/OR CRADLES)
All FIBREGLASS KAYAKS MUST be loaded onto a cradle and/or foam paddling (cut strips from the foam mattress in the shed). Strapping fibreglass kayaks directly onto roof-racks produces dents and can crack the kayak! These methods also help protect the plastic sea kayaks.

Return
Wash the salt, chlorine or manky festy water from your gear. These chemicals degrade the plastic, fabrics and fittings of all the gear. Hang out any wet gear to dry and return all other gear to the correct place. Check off that you have returned all the equipment you have borrowed and make notes of any loss/damage and write in your actual return date.

Gear loss and damage
We expect the equipment you borrow to experience normal wear and tear through usage. However, if you have lost or damaged equipment through negligence, the club will ask you to replace that equipment.

Donations
The introduction of VSU has significantly limited the clubs' funding, so we ask you for a donation whenever you borrow the clubs gear to help pay for its maintenance and replacement. The metal donations box is up against the wall of the shed. Please put some money in one of the envelopes provided and write down the type of kayak you used on the envelope (white water, sea kayak, canoe etc).

Without donations, the club will not be able to replace or update any gear in the future.
