Costs of joining the club
Joining UQ Canoe club (required)Membership turns over in March of a given year. If you join in January or February, your membership lasts until the end of March of the following year (i.e. up to 15 months of membership). If you join after March, membership lasts until March of the following year. The increase in club membership fees is due to the introduction of Voluntary Student Union membership (VSU) laws and the consequent loss of this important funding source. However -
To be eligible for personal accident insurance (via UQ sport), you MUST be a financial member of the Canoe club.
Costs of Joining Affiliate Organisations (optional)There are several ways to join UQ sport (this is not the Canoe club), depending on your circumstances. You to not have to join UQ sport or Australian canoeing to join the UQ Canoe club. Membership of UQ sport gives you cheaper access to a much larger range of clubs and facilities. Note these prices were last collated in 2007 - and prices are likely to have altered. Note that international students are automatically UQ sport members, but they need to activate it at UQ sport reception.
Members are encouraged to become Australian Canoeing members. This provides an additional source of insurance coverage. It also enables members to more easily participate in other club or Australian/Queensland canoeing events, and allows them to join secondary canoe clubs (e.g. Queensland Sea Kayak Club) if they wish.
