Costs of joining the club

UQ Canoe Club membership: $60 (fulltime UQ student) or $100 (others)
Membership turns over in March of a given year. If you join in January or February, your membership lasts until the end of March of the following year (i.e. up to 15 months of membership). If you join after March, membership lasts until March of the following year.

The increase in club membership fees is due to the introduction of Voluntary Student Union membership (VSU) laws and the consequent loss of this important funding source. However -

From 2007 YOU DO NOT NEED TO JOIN UQ SPORT to join the club.
To be eligible for personal accident insurance (via UQ sport), you
MUST be a financial member of the Canoe club.

Standard UQ Sport membership
There are several ways to join UQ sport (this is not the Canoe club), depending on your circumstances. You to not have to join UQ sport or Australian canoeing to join the UQ Canoe club. Membership of UQ sport gives you cheaper access to a much larger range of clubs and facilities. Note these prices were last collated in 2007 - and prices are likely to have altered.

Note that international students are automatically UQ sport members, but they need to activate it at UQ sport reception.

• $57 - as a member of the UQ Alumni Association, you are entitled to a discount on your membership. Membership of the Alumni association costs $49.50 p.a., but it entitles you to other discounts (e.g. reduced rates of UQ library membership). Family members of alumni may also be eligible to join the association.
• $60 - if you are a UQ student
• $75 - as a UQ staff member. UQ staff members are entitled to a discount when they join UQ sport
• $75 - as a UQ graduate. UQ graduates are entitled to a discount when they join UQ sport
• $75 - Concession. Concession card holders (Seniors/pensioners and students of other universities) are entitled to a discount when they join UQ sport
• $90 - the full price of UQ sport membership. If you have no connexion with UQ.

Australian Canoeing membership
Members are encouraged to become Australian Canoeing members. This provides an additional source of insurance coverage. It also enables members to more easily participate in other club or Australian/Queensland canoeing events, and allows them to join secondary canoe clubs (e.g. Queensland Sea Kayak Club) if they wish.
