Next General POOL Training Sessions
Experienced members please come along help out at the General pool training sessions on the first few Tuesday evenings of each semester at 7:45 PM. (see below for dates). Entry is free if you help and/or teach. Note that these three dates are not canoe polo, and are not open to non-members unless invited specifically. Canoe polo will be every week at the UQ pool during semester other than pool training sessions. See calendar below for variations of this.

We will have three individual days of guided paddles on the Nymboida river in NSW and return each day to the Nymboida Canoe Centre camping ground.

Market Day Sem 1 2017Wed 22 Feb 17 ()
The club has a display in the Great Court on Wednesday 22nd February 2017 as part of the UQ orientation week's Market Day.
This is usually located along the cloisters of the Forgan Smith building (if you view the Great Court as a "D" shape, then our stall is located in the upper half of the straight line of the "D") near the Merlo coffee shop at the SS&H Library.

Any prospective members, and indeed anyone with even a small interest in kayaking, are invited to come along and meet some of the current members and get a better idea about the club and what it offers.

Club members - please come along and encourage others to join the club, you are MOST welcome!! Pop in anytime to say 'Hi' - or stay for a bit longer (or even the whole time)!

Monthly Full Moon PaddlesSun 12 Mar 17 ()
A monthly social night paddle under the full moon. Paddling upstream or downstream from UQ, and returning to UQCC shed.

For a month experienced club members will make themselves available to paddle with new paddlers to help them build their skills, experience, and confidence on the river.

Day trip to a Wivenhoe dam to practice and develop the skills to paddle tippier boats such as TK1s and K1s.

Weekly Canoe Polo restarts from Tuesday 28th March. Space is available in the shallow end for paddle practice and other activities. Details here.

Amity WeekendSat 8 Apr 17 ()
A weekend trip along the northern bay side of North Stradbroke island, with a paddle over the Amity banks and Rous channel if conditions permit.

An introductory day to Coochiemudlo Island in Moreton Bay to learn basic sea kayak skills at the beach (Coochie Group). Moved to April 14.

An introductory day from Clontarf Beach (Redcliffe) in Moreton Bay to learn basic sea kayak skills at the beach (Easter Group).

This session will concentrate on negotiating the surf zone safely. Likely route is out of the Currumbin Bar then practicing negotiating the surf on the northern beach. More experienced sea kayakers.

A mid semester social trip to the West Markets

A chance to have some high end flatwater instruction from a qualified coach. Suitable for beginners or more advanced paddlers.

A social paddle on the river followed by a working bee and sausage sizzle

A flatwater day paddle from Noosaville to Lake Weyba and back.

A day trip Victoria point to Peel Island return with time for lunch and exploration. Only people who have demonstrated the use of a spray deck, performed a wet exit, and undertaken an assisted (T) rescue in a sea kayaks are eligible for this trip.

For a month experienced club members will make themselves available to paddle with new paddlers to help them build their skills, experience, and confidence on the river.

A day trip from Paradise point on the northern Gold Coast to Coomera Island at the mouth of the Coomera river. We will leave from Paradise Point (northern Gold Coast), returning to the same place via Wasp Creek.

There will be a roll training session in the shallow end of the UQ pool this Tuesday evening.

A chance to have some high end flatwater instruction from a very experienced and qualified coach. Suitable for both beginners or more advanced paddlers.

A multiweek interclub canoe polo competition (three Friday nights). Suitable for both beginner and advanced players - or just come as a spectator to support the club. Hosted in Indooroopilly by Brothers canoe club.

We will paddle from the Amazons Place Park in Jindalee back to the UQ Canoe Club and go for a one hour barefoot bowl at the Toowong Lawn Bowls Club.

Want to try kayaking? Do your friends want to try? This is your chance. The start of semester come and try day is scheduled for Saturday 29 July, from 8:00 AM to 12 noon . Prospective members are encouraged to come.

A assessment day aimed at members who wish to go on the Fraser Trip but aren't sure if you're ready. We paddle from Bongaree beach following the shoreline from inside the Bribie Passage to around the south eastern tip of Bribie. There will be extensive training exercises on this trip as we assess everyone's readiness for the Fraser expedition paddle.
The Paddle is open to all club members. However, preference will be given to those people who have expressed an interest in the Fraser Trip.

Paddling from Raby Bay to Peel island with time to explore. This trip is not suitable for beginners.

A get-together and film night for the club. We will grab dinner at the Pizza Café and then move into a classroom/lecture theatre to watch The Halo Effect.

The club is looking for members interested in participating in the Tingalpa Trot Canoe Marathon

An Introduction to Navigation Skills required by Sea Kayakers. - Essential Foundation skills for anyone planning their own paddling adventure.

This will be a two and a half day (two night) kayaking trip to Inskip Point, Fraser Island and Tin Can Bay. The area is well known for dolphin and dugong sightings.

This is a trip for those who have completed the 'Into to WW' trips run earlier this semester or for those with basic white water experience. It's a good chance to continue to develop your skills (only four places).
