Help fix gear and prepare it for the coming semester - and have a bit of a social day.

Market Day Sem 1 2016Wed 24 Feb 16 ()
The club has a display in the Great Court on Wednesday 24 Feb 2014 as part of the UQ orientation week's Market Day.
This is usually located along the cloisters of the Forgan Smith building (if you view the Great Court as a "D" shape, then our stall is usually located in the upper half of the straight line of the "D") near the Merlo coffee shop at the SS&H Library.

Any prospective members, and indeed anyone with even a small interest in kayaking, are invited to come along and meet some of the current members and get a better idea about the club and what it offers.

Club members - please come along and encourage others to join the club, you are MOST welcome!! Pop in anytime to say 'Hi' - or stay for a bit longer (or even the whole time)!

Want to try kayaking? Do your friends want to try? This is your chance. The start of semester come and try day is scheduled for Saturday 27 Feb, from 8:00 AM to 12 noon . Prospective members are encouraged to come.

Weekly Canoe Polo restarts from Tuesday 22 March. Space is available in the shallow end for paddle practice and other activities. Details here.

Easter Market PaddleSat 26 Mar 16 ()
A social Easter paddle to the West End markets for the morning.

Two sessions are planned in the UQ pool in order to learn how to do T rescues in sea kayaks. This is a different method to what you may have learned in canoe polo or whitewater, and is a method of rescuing someone who is out of their boat a long way from shore.

A day trip to Wavebreak island on the Gold Coast to learn the basic skills needed for sea kayaking.

A weekend with a sea kayak instructor learning to lead grade 1 trips and also being assessed for grade 2 skill levels.

A 4 day trip kayaking and camping up the Noosa river (Friday evening - Monday).

A day event following the shoreline from inside the Bribie Passage to around on the south eastern tip of Bribie. There will be training opportunities as the trip is being held concurrently with a QSKC trip, being led by Tony Hirst, who is an AC Sea Instructor. He will be assisting in training our Club during this event.

Shoreline Clean upSat 28 May 16 ()
A chance to "do the right thing" and help clean up the shore of the St. Lucia campus, followed by a paddle afterwards.

A social meet up at the Regatta Hotel.

Test of New Sea KayaksSat 18 Jun 16 ()
A chance to try out potential new sea kayaks for the club.

The club is having its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday evening 28th of June. This is an important meeting for the club so please put it in your diaries and come along.

A 9 day sea kayak expedition along Queensland's Fraser island. [Note changed destination/dates]

Launching from Victoria Point we will head directly to Karragarra Island for lunch and return to Victoria Point

Learn to rescue someone who has come out a sea kayak (sea kayak T-rescues) at the UQ pool. Members need to have demonstrated this to come on sea kayak trips.

Huw Kingston as completed a year long, human-powered circumnavigation of the Mediterranean Sea by sea kayak, foot, ocean rowboat and bike. He is at Queensland University as part of a national speaking tour.

Learn to rescue someone who has come out a sea kayak (sea kayak T-rescues) at the UQ pool. For those who haven't done it yet. Members need to have demonstrated this to come on sea kayak trips.

An introductory day to Coochiemudlo Island in Moreton Bay to learn basic sea kayak skills at the beach. Sunday Group.

For four weeks we will have advanced players spend more time training members and practicing skills useful for polo. This is a great opportunity for beginners to develop their skills and get into the fun and fitness that is polo!

Currumbin Marathon RaceSat 17 Sep 16 ()
Enter the Northern Marathon Race Series race at Currumbin Creek on Sept. 17

This is an great trip for paddlers with limited sea kayaking experience. The trip involves a paddle amongst the islands of Southern Moreton Bay to the old Bedrooms camp ground on South Stradbroke Island.

A three day weekend visiting various islands in Moreton Bay, staying two nights on the largest - North Stradbroke island. We will stay two nights at UQ's Moreton Bay Research Station (rooms and sheets provided, but bring a towel).

Brunswick River PaddleSat 8 Oct 16 ()
A day trip paddling along the Brunswick river from Brunswick Heads to Mullumbimby and back.

A rare opportunity to have beginner and/or more advanced canoe polo training from qualified polo coaches. You chance to get into polo - or more into it!

An introductory day to learn basic sea kayak skills at the beach. Second Group (original trip was cancelled due to poor weather).

We will paddle from the UQCC shed to the boat ramp on Ross St in Newstead (near Newstead Park) and go for a 2 h barefoot bowl. We will take cars back to the shed.

Coomera islandSat 22 Oct 16 ()
A trip around and through Coomera island at the mouth of the Coomera river. We will leave from Paradise Point (northern Gold Coast), returning to the same place via Wasp Creek.

A weekend learning to become a canoe polo referee

A day trip exploring the upper Brisbane river for potential white water introduction sites.

We're having an end of year get together at the club shed.

Pool users are getting together at a restaurant as a final end of year event instead of polo.

St. Helena IslandSat 3 Dec 16 ()
A day trip to St. Helena island in Moreton Bay (Brisbane's equivalent of Alcatraz).

A weekend trip to Blakesley's anchorage on North Stradbroke island. Paddling from Redland Bay to Blakesley's Anchorage via Russell Island. Camping overnight and returning via Macleay Island (Sunday).

A day paddling alongside other local clubs. Socialising, learning from others, and having various fun team competitions - and a barbecue at the end!
