CANCELLED DUE TO FLOOD DAMAGE: The Brisbane Valley 100 is on again in 2011. A 100 km FUN race over two days down the upper Brisbane river.

Details for the race are available at Qld Canoeing (BV100)
This race is subject to conditions. The 2007 - 2009 races were cancelled because the river was blocked by weed.

The club is interested in entering solo or relay teams. The point is primarily to participate and have fun. As a relay team member you don't have to do the full 50 - 100 km. Each day is divided into shorter sections ranging from only 8.5 km to a maximum of 13 km. If you feel able to paddle this much, please consider entering. See if you can spot club members (past and present) and club boats in the photos from the last race in 2006!

Day 1: Wivenhoe Spillway to Kholo Lagoon. Day 2: Repeat of day one (it's so nice up there!).
Purpose:

  • Raise funds to help two charitable, non-profit organisations
    • Hannah's Foundation - Drowning Awareness, Prevention and Support, and
    • Sporting Wheelies - Enhancing the lives of people with a disability through community engagement and education, sport and healthy activity
  • Enjoy a surprisingly beautiful river.
  • Have fun - maybe win some prizes or medals or something...

Duration: 1 or 2 days
Competitions: solo, teams, mens, womens, mixed, and/or relay
Paddle type: Flatwater

The club is slowly getting back to the water after the floods. This Saturday the 21st May, we will have our first river paddle. This is for members from the past couple of years who have renewed for this year.

Trial of new boatsSun 5 Jun 11 ()
The insurance is coming through, and we are looking to make final decisions on new boats. Here is a chance to try a few.

Weekly paddles start this week (9th & 10th Aug). Meet every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at 6:30 AM (on the water) at the club shed. Night Paddles on Thursday nights from the 18th Aug.

A weekly two hour after-work night paddle up or down the river starts Thursday 18 Aug at 7:00 PM

Looking for a paddle in the evenings but it's too dark? Do you have trouble getting to the Uni for afternoon paddles due to work? Maybe you just like the idea of paddling under the stars and city lights. For the next month or few, we are running a weekly night paddle on Thursday evenings.

Paddling safe
Paddling at night has extra dangers. You must have adequate lights (it is critical that other boats see you easily from a distance). Basic lights consist of a front light (e.g. head torch) and a rear WHITE light, or a raised bright 360 degree white light. Glo-sticks alone or a single unidirectional light are not sufficient (but a good addition to your PFD). Red bike lights are not acceptable. Bring warm gear in case it is cold.

Requirements

  • Lights! - front and back and bright and white (spare batteries too)
  • PFD - you will be required to wear a PFD at all times
  • Group - we need to keep together as a group
  • Sides - we need to stay to the sides of the river as much as practical to reduce exposure to other (bigger) boats.
  • Warm gear - it may be cold... bring sufficient warm gear. Keep additional dry gear in your backpack/car in case you get wet!
Remember there are warm showers and a changing area in the shed complex.

  • 7:00PM (sharp) meet at shed
