Club AGM and BBQSat 31 May 08 ()
The Club AGM is scheduled for Sat May 31 after the morning paddle. Also a fun social barbecue!

The Qld Canoeing Winter Series Canoe Polo Competition starts on Sunday, Jun 1 2008 at Springfield Lakes.

The Adventure: we will circumnavigate Bribie Island over three days. The direction and starting point will be announced closer to the date because they are highly dependent on wind, swell and tides.

Duration: Three days

Time: packing boats Friday evening, leaving early Saturday morning.

Date: Queens Birthday long weekend, the 7th to the 9th of June 2008.

The Paddle: you need to be comfortable paddling two 30km days and one 20km day, potentially into some current and wind. We will also be crossing the bar at Caloundra so you need to be either comfortable in surf OR happy to get wet. We will get you through if you are keen enough!

Cost: camping, EPA rates, about $4 a night.

Issues: there are other trips on that weekend (see the website) so we will be a little tight on boats. The quicker you reply, the more likely you will be able to come along.

If you have any questions or comments please email Marj . If you are interested in coming, email Marj with the following details:

  • Name, email, phone number
  • Paddling experience if I don't know you (keep it brief)
  • What club gear you will need
  • An emergency contact (not someone on the trip please)
  • Any medical conditions you have (and medications you carry)

Things you'll need -

  • The water will be cold, and you will get wet (i.e. swimming). Bring swimming clothing that will keep you warm (eg thermals or wetsuit). Avoid wearing cotton as it will not be effective in keeping you warm when you are wet. Also bring a towel and a dry change of warm clothing for afterwards.
  • Footwear that can get wet (not thongs).
  • Normal camping clothing (don't forget the jumper).
  • Camping gear - the club has some gear (tents, stoves, sleeping mats, bags), so let me know what you need, and we can arrange it. Torch

  • Sunscreen, Insect repellent (the bugs can be vicious), Water bottle (but you don't need water)
