Paradise Pt - Currigee (2nd training Day)

A second Sea Kayak training day at Paradise Point / South Stradbroke island. Practise skills learnt previously at the UQ pool or on introductory paddles. This trip is in a Bay environment. The program of activities include both some off water and on water training sessions (below).

North Currigee is a inlet on South Stradbroke island in Southern Moreton Bay.
Tides: High 7:18 AM; Low 13:52 PM; High 19:49 PM
Prerequisites: To attend this trip, you need to have learned and demonstrated wet exits in the UQ pool. Check the Polo calendar for scheduled T-rescue dates.
Preparation: We will pack the trailer (if needed) at 5 PM on Saturday afternoon 6th September. We need 3 - 4 volunteers to assist
Meet: Club shed, Sunday 7th April at 6.30AM sharp! with a view to departing at 7.00 AM. Arrive at Paradise Point 8.00 AM. Unload and prepare kayaks ready to commence at 9:00 AM
======= PROGRAM =======
Phase 1 (prior to on water activity)
Phase 2 (on water on route)
At this stage this activity will occur on the northern side of Coochiemudlo Island off a sandy clear beach. Upon arrival at this location there will be the opportunity to change into other clothes for in water activities. There are public toilets there.
Lunch (at same beach as 'in water' training session). You will need to bring lunch with you as there are no shops near the lunch spot.
Phase 4 (trip home)
Risks: sunburn, capsize, rocks, hypothermia, dehydration, boat traffic, paddle related injuries.

Risk reduction: Dress for the outdoors, Warm clothing to et changed into for lunch stop. Advise trip leader of medical conditions
Equipment: Sea kayaks, skirts, paddle leashes, bailers and PFDs. Dry bags if you have them else from the club. You will get wet. Bring dry paddling gear to change into after the training session. Bring a picnic lunch, snacks, at least 2L WATER, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, insect repellent, footwear, suitable money, hat, towel, warm dry gear, wind and rain proof top and change of clothing as you will be getting wet.
Basic Costs: A wear and tear contribution towards kayak upkeep (in this case: $12) and a contribution for petrol.
Meet: Saturday 6th April 5 -6 pm load kayaks (if necessary). Sunday 7th April. Depart at 7.15 am. Aim to commence training 9:00 am.
Put in point: Park along the Esplanade, Paradise Point ( opposite Muscovey Av.)

Participants must register their interest prior to the event. There is a participant limit on this trip du to the number of kayaks available so please reserve your place early. Once the trip is full no more bookings can be taken. Depends on availability kayaks and transport.
