Paradise Point is a sheltered area abutting the Broadwater. This session is about practicing safety skills. Practice using a skirt, sea kayak rescue (assisted and self rescues). The trip includes a paddle around the broadwater. If you want to get into sea kayaking, try to come on this trip.
The training session will start with a quick revision of paddling strokes and
techniques. It will concentrate on wet exits, T-rescues and safety.
After the initial training session we will kayak on the Broadwater and visit South
Stradbroke Island. We will stop off to introduce and practice different strokes,
edging, self rescues and other techniques for boat control.
Meet: 6 am at the UQ Canoe Club to load kayaks. Depart 7am and drive to Paradise Point. Aim to be on the water before 9.30am. Tides: HLow tide is about 12.30 pm so we will be going around sandbanks. Leader: Michael Wynne Contact & registration : Michael (seakayaking rep)
